Looking to help a good cause, think about donating to Whisper, Cadette Girl Scout with Troop 6260. She is looking to earn her Silver Award, but she needs the communities help. Cadettes earn their Silver Award by researching an issue, making a plan to address it, and then take action to improve their communities. Whisper has decided to give back by teaming with the Wisconsin Nicaragua Partnership.
The W/NP helps promote mutual understanding and establish lasting relationships among citizens, foster volunteerism and develop assistance funds. Whisper has decided to collaborate with the Wisconsin Nicaragua Partnership after hearing about the start of a library in a neighboring village in Nicaragua. She is looking to collect books in Spanish, along with items for their new community center.
Access to reading materials is a challenge for many children there. Most children in Nicaragua complete less than five years of schooling and nearly 500,000 children between the ages of 3 to 12 don’t even get the chance to go to school. A lending library was started there but they don’t have many books compared to the number of children that want to make use of them.
