When is the last time you went to a national park? When is the last time you played with fireflies like you did when you where a kid? Well, you could do both at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park!
Every year the fireflies come together for one of Mother Nature’s must see shows. For two weeks, between mid-May to mid-June the fireflies will light up the sky and dance around in an effort to find their mate.
Firefly flash patterns are part of the their mating display. Each species have a characteristic pattern that helps male and females recognize and find each other. – National Parks Service
You could see this years show by winning a lottery. On April 28th the lottery will open at 10am and will close on May 1st. On May 11th lottery winners will find out if they get to see the fireflies! It cost $1 to enter.
