A live musical TV special featuring “Wicked” movie stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande singing songs from the Universal Pictures film is set to air on NBC this fall. The special event will take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles ahead of the Nov. 21 release of the sequel film, “Wicked: For Good.”
The broadcast will be live on NBC and stream the next day on Peacock, marking the first time songs from the popular Broadway musical will be featured in this format on broadcast television. Director Jon M. Chu announced the special during NBCUniversal’s upfront presentation, promising a night of entertainment with surprise guests and performances from both movies.
A sneak peek of the unreleased trailer for “Wicked: For Good” was also shown, with Chu jokingly warning attendees about the security measures in place to prevent leaks.
